In Loving Memory :: Simes

------------------------------

A Tribute To Simes

Little. blue-eyed Friend,
Once, long ago, before you,
I had another blue-eyed Friend.
I made him a blanket
For his basket.
Every stitch was put in with love,
By my own hands.

When he was given the
Needle of mercy
To end his pain,
They wrapped him in his blanket-
Beige and brown, like him
With a streak of blue
To match his eyes-
Like a small soldier in his Flag.

Little, blue-eyed Friend,
When you were very small
I started to knot you a blanket,
For I believe
Every Siamese Gentleman
Should have his own blanket
For his basket, and for his warmth.

Because of a broken heart
I have not finished it.
So long as I do not finish it
You cannot lie in it
Wrapped as a soldier in his Flag.

But some day I suppose
I shall be compelled to finish it
For this same Reason.
Every Siamese Gentleman
Should have his own blanket
For his basket, for his warmth,
And to lie in
Like a small blue-eyed soldier
In his Flag.

If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
